What it means: In October 1835, Mexican troops rode into Gonzales, Texas, to take back a small cannon. The settlers answered with a homemade flag showing the cannon, a star and three words: Come and Take It. The skirmish that followed opened the Texas Revolution. An American officer had thrown the same words at the British at Fort Morris, Georgia, back in 1778.
