What it means: Come and Take It dates to Gonzales, Texas, in October 1835, when settlers refused to hand a small cannon over to Mexican troops and flew a flag daring them to try. The fight that followed kicked off the Texas Revolution. It has been the American answer to a demand to disarm ever since.
